Our Story

Forest4Future was founded with a clear mission: to take direct action in response to the climate crisis. Rather than waiting for change, we set out to be the change we want to see in the world. Though still in its early stages, our initiative is already making a tangible impact, our small, committed team has planted more than 1,000 trees, helping restore ecosystems and sequester carbon.

Our work is rooted in a deep respect for the natural heritage of Tuscany. Over the last 5,000 years, Tuscany’s forests have been profoundly altered by climate shifts, human settlement, and the rise of agriculture. Once rich in native deciduous trees like oak, beech, chestnut, and maple, the region’s woodland was gradually cleared for fuel, building materials, and farmland. Although reforestation efforts in the 20th century aimed to reverse this loss, they often relied on non-native pine species, especially in the Apennine and coastal zones.

Today, the urgency is greater than ever. Between 2001 and 2023, Italy saw widespread tree cover loss, with Tuscany hit hardest. The region lost an estimated 96,500 hectares of forest, the most of any in the country. Native species now make up only a small fraction of Tuscany’s remaining forest cover.

Forest4Future is dedicated to reversing this trend by planting diverse, native deciduous trees that strengthen local biodiversity and build climate resilience, for today and for generations to come.
